August 8, 2005 – Doug Scott signs contract with WTAMU. The sculpture value is
$300,000.00.
September 8, 2005 – Production of the miniatures begins.
October 18, 2005 –
The miniature bronzes of “The Original Texans” are available for purchase.

November 21, 2005 – A
million pound capacity crane was used to load the largest block
of marble ever quarried in New Mexico!
This block weighs 72,000 pounds.
April 4, 2006 –
The first cut is being made on the monumental marble block, while more bronze
buffalos are being poured.
Notice the red hot crucible.
It is full of molten bronze.

April 5, 2006 – This morning the first block of marble is
removed from the sculpture. This
removed block is a substantial piece of the history of "The Original
Texans" sculpture …
special. Perhaps someone
would value a special sculpture created from this special block of marble.

April 14, 2006 – Starting to see a buffalo.
April 20, 2006 – Doug and his long drill are rolling big doney
boulders off of "Russell".
The name of the sculpture is "The Original Texans" … but
"Russell" is Doug's affectionate pet - name for the sculpture. This is in honor of Dr. Russell Long.

The sledgehammer pounds away at Russell's "afro" 

June 15, 2006 –
The buffalo head is all there,
and the calf is coming out!!
June 26, 2006 – Shaping the hump.


July 19, 2006 –
Standing on Russell's head.

August 9, 2006 –
Russell gets a tail!!

September 9, 2006 –
A young pretty girl (carved in
marble) holds her hands up so
as to support my foot while I
grind on Russell's rear.
September 12, 2006 – The first cut under the belly.

November 7, 2006 –
Here is the current condition of the "site" where Russell
will live … I look to install him in the spring.


January 12, 2007 – 9 foot tall
“Russell” looks cozy in 2½ feet of snow.
